INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Kaylea Arnett of the Virginia Tech swimming and diving program earned All-American Honorable Mention honors on the first day of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships Thursday at the IU Natatorium. Arnett scored seven points for the H2Okies as she placed 10th to earn the honors for the second-straight year in the event.
After placing 11th in the prelims, the Spring, Texas, native scored a 326.60 to bump up a spot and secure 10th place.
In addition to Arnett, divers Kelli Stockton and Logan Kline and swimmers Heather Savage and the 400 medley relay team competed in the morning session.
Kline tallied a score of 257.20 to place 31st, while Stockton followed in at 32nd place with a score of 241.00 in the 1-meter prelims.
On the swimming side, senior Savage kicked off the day with a 37th place in the 50 freestyle as she swam a time of 22.75. The quartet of Sabrina Benson, Weronika Paluszek, Savage and Katarina Filova swam a time of 3:34.41 that would have placed 12th in the prelims of the 400 medley relay but was disqualified.
Competition will pick back up for the H2Okies tomorrow starting with the prelims at 11 a.m., followed by the finals that will be aired on ESPN3.com at 7 p.m. Tech will compete in four events on Friday, including the 100 butterfly (Savage), 100 breaststroke (Paluszek and Alyssa Bodin), the 200 medley relay and the 3-meter event.
Final results will be posted following the finals tonight.
