BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Christiansburg Aquatic Center home of the Virginia Tech H2Okies will serve as the host site for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, which is scheduled for March 15-17. Competition will feature all three diving events throughout the three-day event that will begin at noon each day. Admission is free.
As the entries are being filed, the NCAA will release the list of student-athletes that have qualified in the next week or so. Last year, the University of Buffalo hosted a total of 48 men’s divers from 27 schools and 10 conferences, while the women’s field consisted of 47 divers from 26 schools and 11 conferences throughout the northeast region.
The 1-meter and 3-meter events will consist of a preliminary round of six dives using all five groups. The top 18 finishers from the preliminary round will advance to the final round and will perform a second list of six dives using all five groups. The men’s platform will consist of a preliminary round of six dives using all six groups, while the women’s platform event will consist of a preliminary round of five dives using five different groups. The top 12 finishers from the platform preliminary rounds will advance to the final round and will perform a second list of six dives (men) or five dives (women).
Friday's events will consist of the women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter events while the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter competitions will be held on Saturday. Men's and women's platform diving will be held on Sunday.
11 spots throughout both fields (six women, five men) for the NCAA Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships have been allocated to Zone A, which stretches from New England through Virginia. Four other regional competitions, in Houston, Texas, Knoxville, Tenn., West Lafayette, Ind., and USAF Academy, Colo., will also be held that weekend to determine the national field.
