GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Joe Bonk and senior Logan Shinholser of the Virginia Tech swimming and diving program have been named the ACC Male Swimmer and Diver of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Bonk led the way for Tech as the H2Okie men defeated Tennessee, 166.5-133.5. The native of Raleigh, N.C., swept the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in addition to anchoring the 200 medley relay team that kicked off the meet with a first place finish to remain undefeated this season. Bonk also swam the second leg of the 400 free relay that placed second.
Shinholser added to his six-event winning streak, sweeping the springboard events against Tennessee this past weekend. The native of Burtonsville, Md., notched a 3-meter score of 390.97, 23 points higher than the second place competitor, and later took a score of 372.82 on the 1-meter. Shinholser has won 11 of 14 events this season and has earned ACC Men’s Diver of the Week honors four times this year.
North Carolina’s sophomore was named the Female Swimmer of the Week, while Abby Johnston of Duke earned the Female Diver of the Week honor.
