BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program will kick off the new year hosting a top-25 Tennessee squad Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Start time is set for 12 p.m. and it will be streamed live on HokieSports.com.

THE H2OKIES

• The H₂Okies are coming off almost a month break, including a 10-day Fort Lauderdale, Fla., training trip.

• Senior Heather Savage enters the spring season undefeated. Savage has won every individual event this season for the women and have five times ranked on the nations top-50 list.

• The three Tech men, Zach McGinnis (No. 12 - 100 Back, No. 27 – 200 Back), Gregory Mahon (No. 35 – 100 Fly, No. 44 – 200 Fly) and Morgan Latimer (No. 24 – 200 Fly), are ranked in the nation’s top-50.

• All of the H₂Okies’ relay teams are ranked in the nation’s top-50, including the four men’s teams (200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay) in the top-20.

• Sophomore Kaylea Arnett leads the H₂Okie divers, as she is undefeated in the 3-meter this season and has collected three ACC Female Diver of the Week honors. The Spring, Texas, native have won eight titles in 12 events entered this season.

• On the men’s side, senior Logan Shinholser has dominated all season. The Burtonsville, Md., native is on a six-event winning streak and has won nine of his 12 events this season, while grabbing two ACC Male Diver of the Week honors.

SCOUTING THE VOLS

• Tennessee enters the weekend with a 3-2 dual record for the men and an undefeated No. 10 women’s squad. The Vols have dropped dual contests to Ohio State and Indiana.

• The Vols are coming off a 5-5 2011-12 season and placed fourth at the SEC Championships and took 22^nd at NCAAs. The Lady Vols had an outstanding season last year, coming in seventh at the National Championships with 249 points, the second highest in program history, and took second at SECs which was the best in 20 years.

• Nine Lady Vols earned All-American honors last season and return seven.

TENNESSEE DIVING

• Tennessee’s six-man roster might be small, but it brings a lot of talent. The 2012 squad racked in a total of 56 points at the NCAA Championships last season, 28 points from both teams.

• On the men’s side the Vols return sophomore Mauricio Robles, and seniors Jordan Mauney and Brent Sterling. Sterling and Robles competed at the National Championships and Robles earned the highest placing, coming in ninth on the platform to earn honorable mention honors. The Mexico native is also the 2012 SEC Platform Champion.

• Redshirt junior Tori Lamp, who was the runner-up in the platform event at the 2012 NCAA Championships, leads the Lady Vols. She claimed the platform gold and the 1- and 3-meter silvers at the SEC Championships to be named the 2012 SEC Diver of the Year.

• Redshirt junior Jodie McGroarty and freshman Samantha Lera round out the women’s roster. McGroarty is coming off Honorable Mention All-America honors on both springboards at the 2012 National Championships and placed third on the 3-meter at SECs.
