BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program has released its 2012-2013 schedule, one that will feature five home meets and seven road contests during the regular-season as announced by head coach Ned Skinner.
“We are very excited about this year's schedule as it has a great balance between ACC opponents and non-conference teams,” Skinner said. “In particular, we are looking forward to hosting the H2Okie Fall Invitational in November, as it will be our first three-day event in the fall and will feature teams from the SEC, BIG EAST, and beyond.”
Tech opens its campaign hosting the Virginia Tech Swimming Challenge, which includes CCSA opponents Gardner-Webb, VMI and Liberty’s women’s squad on Oct. 20. A road trip to North Carolina on Oct. 26 and to Duke the following day wraps up the month.
After traveling to Atlanta, Ga., on Nov. 3 for a dual meet against Florida Gulf Coast and host Georgia Tech, the H2Okies return home for their three-day H2Okie Fall Invitational on Nov. 15-17. Joining Tech at the meet will be William & Mary, Connecticut, South Carolina, as well as the Richmond and Liberty women’s squads.
Two weeks later, the H2Okie divers will head down to Athens, Ga., for a three-day diving competition hosted by Georgia.
“The Georgia Diving Invitational and our dual meet versus Tennessee are two additional events circled on our calendar as incredible opportunities for us to compete against some of the best,” noted Skinner.
Fresh off the winter break, Tech hosts Tennessee on Jan. 12. The top-20 program will be facing the H2Okies for the first time in over 20 years. Four days later, Tech will travel to Raleigh, N.C., to face conference opponent NC State.
Tech will host its final home dual meet on Jan. 19 against William & Mary and Miami’s women, before heading down the road to Charlottesville for a two-day event against conference rival Virginia and top-20 opponent Wisconsin on Jan. 25-26.
The H2Okies will return home a final time to host the championship-style event, the Virginia Tech Invitational, on Feb. 9 before heading into the conference championships.
The ACC Championships will be in Greensboro, N.C., in the brand-new Greensboro Aquatic Center. The state-of-the-art facility will host the women’s championships beginning Feb. 20 and later hold the men’s championships starting on Feb. 27.
