BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Ryan Hawkins and junior Logan Shinholser of the Virginia Tech diving program represented the United States in the 2012 Canada Cup FINA Grand Prix this past weekend at the Olympic Park pool in Montreal, Quebec.
The top duo completed the weekend Sunday with a fourth-place finish in the men’s synchronized platform. Shinholser and Hawkins finished with a score of 349.05, just 30 points from third place.
In addition to the men’s synchronized platform event, Shinholser competed individually in the men’s platform. The junior placed 19th with a score of 338.20 in the preliminary round.
Shinholser and Hawkins were the only two divers from the same school competing at the Canada Cup, while being the only competitors from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Shinholser was also the only USA diver competing in two events.
The two will enjoy a three-day break before traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the 2012 AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix on Thursday. Shinholser will compete in the individual platform event on Thursday, before Hawkins and Shinholser pair up for the synchronized platform event on Sunday.
