Heather Savage earns All-America honors in the 100 butterfly
The ACC Champion places seventh overall

AUBURN, Ala. – Junior Heather Savage of the Virginia Tech swimming team highlighted day two of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, as she placed seventh in the in the 100 butterfly to be named an All-American Friday night at the James Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn University.

After placing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 52.31, Savage, the ACC record holder bettered her time by .15 seconds (52.16) to place seventh and bring in 12 points for the H2Okies.

Logan Kline joined Savage in the finals as she was the only diver to advance in the 3-meter event. The junior brought in a score of 311.00 to place 13th in the preliminaries, before she scored a 306.20 in the finals to finish 16th overall and receive Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Savage also competed in the 100 backstroke along with teammate Sabrina Benson. Savage placed 51st overall with a time of 54.16, while Benson took 37th place with a time of 53.74. The freshman also took 51st in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.59.

Senior Erika Hajnal also competed for Tech today. She came in 25th overall in the 400 IM, as she touched the wall at the 4:12.69 mark.

The H2Okies currently sit at the No. 17 spot, leading all ACC opponents with 32 points, while Cal Berkley is in the lead after day two with 311 points. Georgia sits second with 247, while Southern California and Arizona are tied for third with 226. Stanford rounds out the top five with 222 points.

Hajnal and Savage will close out the NCAA Championships tomorrow, competing in the 200 butterfly and 1650 freestyle, respectively, while all three divers, Kaylea Arnett, Kline and Kelli Stockton will battle in the platform event. The preliminary rounds will begin at noon tomorrow, followed by the finals at 8 p.m.
