AUBURN, Ala. – Junior Logan Kline of the Virginia Tech diving squad opened day one of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, as she placed seventh in the 1-meter event to be named an All-American Thursday at the James Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn University. Senior Erika Hajnal placed 16th in the 500 freestyle, while freshman Kaylea Arnett took 11th in the 1-meter to receive Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Hajnal kicked off the day swimming in the 500 freestyle event. After swimming a 4:41.17 in the preliminaries, the senior placed 16th to tab the honorable mention honors, touching the wall at the 4:44.31 mark and score for Tech.
Divers, Kline and Arnett dove in the water in the 1-meter event, qualifying for the finals placing eighth and ninth, respectively. Kline finished the day scoring a 304.10 in the finals to place seventh overall. Her seventh-place, First-Team All-American finish is a program best for diving, which brought in 12 points for the H2Okies.
The ACC Champion, Arnett, received Honorable Mention All-America honors, as she placed 11th with a score of 302. 90 to add six more points to the Tech total.
As a team the H2Okies sit 17th overall with 19 points going into day two. Cal Berkeley leads 32 teams with a total of 132, while Stanford and Southern California are tied for second with 118 points. Arizona and Auburn round out the top five with a total of 107 and 94 points, respectively.
The H2Okies will return to action tomorrow for their strongest day of the 
Championships. Hajnal will jump in the water for the 400 IM, ACC Champion Heather Savage and freshman Sabrina Benson will compete in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Arnett, Kline and Kelli Stockton will compete in the 3-meter The first event of the preliminaries, the 200 medley relay, will begin at noon, followed by the finals at 8 p.m.
