KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Logan Shinholser and Ryan Hawkins of the Virginia Tech diving program placed fourth in the men’s finals of the synchronized platform event at the 2012 USA Diving Winter National Championships Tuesday.
Previously qualifying for the Olympic Trials over the summer, the top duo recorded a score of 369.84 to finish fourth in the country.
In addition to the men, Kaylea Arnett advanced to the semifinals in the women’s 3-meter event. The freshman diver finished 13th in the quarterfinals with a score of 282.00.
“Today went very well,” commented head diving coach Ron Piemonte. “I couldn’t be happier with how the team is competing. I am very proud of John Trope and Kyle Butts as it was their first time representing Tech in the Championships, even though they didn’t advance they put up very strong performances.”
Shinholser, Hawkins and Arnett will all compete tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. Shinholser and Hawkins will compete in the men’s 10-meter platform event, while Arnett will compete in the women’s 3-meter semifinals.
