KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Logan Shinholser and Ryan Hawkins of the Virginia Tech diving program placed sixth in the men’s finals of the synchronized 3-meter event at the 2012 USA Diving Winter National Championships Saturday to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
With the top eight teams automatically qualifying for the Olympic Trials, the duo finished with a sixth-place score of 684.18 in the finals. Shinholser and Hawkins previously qualified for the synchronized platform event over the summer, which now marks Shinholser a qualifier of all four Olympic events.
In addition to the men, Kaylea Arnett and Kelli Stockton advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 10-meter platform event, which will begin Sunday at 10 a.m.
Although not advancing to the finals of the 1-meter, Logan Kline put in a solid performance as she finished the day placing 14th in the country.
Joining Arnett and Stockton tomorrow, Shinholser and Hawkins will compete individually in the men’s 3-meter quarterfinals, beginning at 2 p.m.
