KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ryan Hawkins of the Virginia Tech diving program advanced to the quarterfinals in the 3-meter event of the 2012 USA Diving Winter National Championships Friday.

After qualifying for the platform event Thursday, the sophomore placed seventh in the 3-meter preliminaries to advance to the quarterfinals, which will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tomorrow Hawkins and partner Logan Shinholser will compete in the quarterfinals of the men’s synchronized 3-meter event, while Kelli Stockton, Logan Kline and Kaylea Arnett will compete in the women’s 10-meter platform quarterfinals. Kline is also competing in the semifinals of the women’s 1-meter event.
