KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After the second day of competition at the Volunteer Invitational hosted by the University of Tennessee, the H2Okie women hold onto their lead, sitting in first place with 731 points. No. 11 Tennessee is in second with 647, following by Kentucky with 592 and Alabama with 520. The No. 23 H2Okie men have moved into second place with 639 points, trailing No. 16 Alabama with 829.5. No. 15 Tennessee sits in third place with 627.5 points followed by Kentucky with 389.
Charlie Higgins brought home the first title for the Virginia Tech men, winning the 100 backstroke with an NCAA “B” cut time of 48.58. Additionally, in the 400 IM, Alex Lutterbein came in second with a time of 3:56.25, followed by Philip LaRosa in third.
Erika Hajnal continued her strong performance, taking home two titles and helping to set two new pool records. First, she brought home the gold in the 400 IM, earning a B-cut time of 4:10.37 and setting a pool record. Katarina Filova won the second individual title for the women, also setting a new pool record in the 200 free with a B-cut time of 1:47.15. Hajnal and Filova then teamed up with Lauren Ritter and Jace Howanitz in the final event of the night, the 800 freestyle relay, setting a third new pool record with a B-cut time of 7:18.10.
The competition will conclude tomorrow, with the preliminary round once again beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the last session of finals at 6 p.m.
