BLACKSBURG, Va. –Sophomore backstroke specialist Charlie Higgins, senior diver Mikey McDonald and freshman diver Logan Shinholser will represent the Virginia Tech H2Okies at the 2010 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships this weekend, March 25-27, at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
McDonald is competing in his third NCAA Championships, while Higgins has qualified for the second time. This marks Shinholser's first appearance.
McDonald placed first in the one-meter event with a combined score of 693.20 and finished second in the three-meter event with a score of 358.35 at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on March 12-14. Shinholser also earned a qualifying bid at the Diving Championships after winning the platform event with a combined score of 702.65.
Higgins has earned top times of 47.13 in the 100 backstroke and 1:45.70 in the 200 backstroke. He holds the school record in both events with times of 46.54 and 1:43.85, respectively.
Last season, the men finished 36th at the NCAA’s with 4.5 points. Charlie Higgins took 20th in the 100 backstroke and 33rd in the 200 backstroke. Mikey McDonald placed 14th in the one-meter event, 15th in the three-meter event and 23rd in the platform event.
