EVANSTON, Ill. - The Virginia Tech women’s and men’s swimming teams are ranked 17th and 23rd , respectively, nationally as announced by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) first coaches’ poll of the 2009-2010 season on Tuesday. The polls were publicized on swiminfo.com and collegeswimming.com, both premier websites for college swimming news and results. The women received 73 votes, while the men earned 70 votes.
Texas, Stanford and California occupy the top-three spots in the men’s national ranking, respectively, while Florida and Auburn round out the top-five. On the women’s side, Georgia is ranked first, followed by Stanford, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Virginia, North Carolina and Florida State were the only other ACC schools represented in the top-25, while the Georgia Tech and Maryland men, Clemson men and women, N.C. State men and women and Duke women also received votes.
The rankings are based on each team’s best dual-meet lineup as judged by voting coaches. National rankings will be announced four times throughout the season. Complete rankings can be found here.
The H2Okie men’s squad has posted wins over Kentucky (161.5-136.5), who is ranked 19th, and a 25th-ranked Penn State team (184-116).
