Hajnal captures first ACC Swimmer of the Week honors
Erika Hajnal has posted three top finishes on the season.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – H2Okie swimmer Erika Hajnal was named the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Hajnal posted a pair of top-two finishes against Virginia last week.

Hajnal, a sophomore from Budapest, Hungary, has shined in Tech’s first two meets of the season, having already posted three top finishes and two second-place marks. Hajnal led the women against a highly competitive Virginia team with a first-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:23.22, which stands as the second-best time in the league this season and is the fastest time for a H2Okie swimmer at War Memorial Pool. She followed that performance with a runner-up finish in the 1650 free with a time of 16:41.20.

The wildlife science major also posted a near-perfect day in Virginia Tech’s opening meet at North Carolina, earning titles in the 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly events. Hajnal’s time of 9:57.51 in the 1000 free was more than three seconds quicker than the second-place finisher, and her time of 2:01.60 in the 200 fly marked a career-best for the sophomore.

Hajnal and the H2Okies will return to action on Saturday, as they host Penn State for a 1 p.m. start at War Memorial Pool.
