Stephen Huss joined the Virginia Tech Men’s Tennis staff as an assistant coach in 2012.

Huss competed on the international stage for 11 years. In 2005 he claimed the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Doubles title as a qualifier, becoming the first to win the Wimbledon title after qualifying into the tournament. He and teammate Wesley Moodie defeated five seeded teams en route to the title. The Bendigo, Australia native achieved a career-high doubles ranking of 21st and won four ATP level finals. In addition, Huss competed in 37 Grand Slam events.

“I am very excited to have Stephen Huss on our staff,” said head coach Jim Thompson. “His knowledge of the game and his experience at every level helps our program. His impact is significant on the court with our guys. He also has the ability to recruit quality student-athletes. He played the professional tour for 11years and knows players and coaches from around the world. If I were a younger player, I would certainly want to learn from someone who has won a Wimbledon title. In addition he is someone who is motivating and inspiring and has been a great addition to our tennis program here at Virginia Tech.”

The 2000 graduate of Auburn University had season ending high rankings of 25th in singles and fifth in doubles while competing for the Tigers. In 1999, he claimed the National Clay Court Doubles Championship and in 2000 was a NCAA quarterfinalist in singles. He competed in the NCAA Championships in singles and doubles in1998 and 2000, earning All-American status both years. Huss ranks fifth on Auburn’s all-time combined wins list with 169 and is second on the doubles list with 96.

 After retiring from professional tennis in 2011, Huss recently coached the doubles team of Abigail Spears and Raquel Kops Jones to a world ranking of fifth.

Huss is married to former professional women’s tennis player, Milagros Sequera. The two have a daughter, Kensie and a son, Noah.
