RADFORD, Va. – Playing in its third game in two days, the Virginia Tech softball team looked to win its second-straight game but the Hokies fell to Radford, 8-0, in five innings on Wednesday evening.
Tech (17-29) left six runners on and saw hits from sophomores Olivia Lattin, Lauren Duff and Kinsey Johnson. 24 hours after earning a six-out save in the Hokies’ 3-2 victory over Liberty, freshman Carrie Eberle came on in relief and struck out three batters in 2.2 innings of work.
Eberle picked up her third K in the fourth where she retired the side after allowing a one out base hit. The Hokies started the top of the fifth with a walk from freshman Taylor Clark and a single to right field from Johnson, her second base hit in her last two plate appearances.
Despite having runners on the corners with two outs after a fielder’s choice moved Clark from second to third, Tech couldn’t muster a run. The Highlanders capitalized by plating a run in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run rule victory.
Tech returns to Tech Softball Park this weekend where they will open a three-game series against Marshall at 7 p.m. on Friday. Senior Day ceremonies will be held before the noon doubleheader on Saturday as the program will honor Elizabeth Birle, Aysha Richardson and Vanessa Gonzalez.
