Offense powers Hokies to 13-6 victory over Georgia Tech
Richardson, Strouth, Schoenewald each post three hits in the series clincher

BLACKSBURG – After getting the job done with a walk-off win in extra innings last night, the Virginia Tech softball team turned in an impressive offensive performance on Saturday as the Hokies handily defeated Georgia Tech, 13-6.
The Hokies (15-18, 5-9 ACC) saw three-hit games from junior Aysha Richardson, sophomore Emma Strouth and junior Caroline Schoenewald. Richardson (2-5) earned the win for Tech after allowing only one hit in four innings of work. The Hokies kept the line moving all day as 15 of their 17 hits, one shy tying their season high, were base hits.
Up only two runs, 8-6, after five and a half, RBI singles from Strouth and junior Breanna Davenport extended the Tech lead to 10-6. With Strouth and Davenport now on second and third and no one out after a wild pitch, sophomore Lauren Duff drove both in with a two RBI double down the left field that made it 12-6 Hokies. Schoenewald’s third hit and third RBI of the afternoon with two outs upped the score to 13-6, putting the game out of reach for the Yellow Jackets (10-25, 3-8 ACC).
After she retired the side in the top of the first, Richardson was caught stealing with runners on the corners in the home half that allowed senior Vanessa Gonzalez to score the first run of the game form third. Duff worked a bases loaded walk with one out and junior Jessie Mehr drove Davenport home on a sacrifice fly that gave the Hokies a 3-0 lead after one.
Tech then scored two runs in the in the second and three runs in the fifth on an RBI single from Mehr and a two RBI single from Schoenewald that made it a five-run game, 8-3. Despite allowing three runs in the top of the sixth, freshman Carrie Eberle, who threw three innings of relief, settled down and retired the side in the top of the seventh.
The Hokies will go for the sweep tomorrow against the Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m. in a game that will be streamed on WatchESPN via HokieVisionLIVE.
