ATLANTA - The Hokies clinched their eighth ACC victory with a 1-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Friday night at Mewborn Stadium. Virginia Tech improves to 13-14 overall, 8-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while Georgia Tech falls to 12-18, 1-6 in conference.

Lauren Duff extended her hitting streak to eight games with an RBI-single sent to right right-center warning track. The single drove Chelsea Whitcomb home and the Hokies the early 1-0 lead.

Tyler’s one-hitter steadied the Hokies defense, tossing 12 strikeouts through 7.0 innings of play. Tyler improves to 10-8 with four shuouts on the season.

Tonight’s 12 strikeouts were the second-most for Tyler this season behind 15 at USC-Upstate. It is also the fifth time the senior has thrown 10 or more strikeouts in 2016.

Georgia Tech’s Courtney Ziese led off the fourth with a hit to left field but Virginia Tech kept the runner at her base.

Key plays by Caitlyn Nolan, Katey Smith, and Whitcomb maintained Virginia Tech’s shutout throughout the game.

The Hokies and Yellow Jackets return to Mewborn Field on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon. ESPN3 will carry both games live.
