Virginia Tech 5 - Appalachian State 2

The Hokies will open the spring with a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 26 with Tech facing ETSU at noon followed by Appalachian State at 5 p.m. Leading Tech into the spring slate is sophomore Natalie Novotna who wrapped up the fall ranked 25th in the ITA single standings after winning the ITA Atlantic Region to earn a spot at the ITA National Championships. #10 Virginia Tech 24 - Duke 19

No. 10 Hokies return to Cassell Coliseum to host a pair of foes. Tech is coming off a 2-0 road trip last weekend. The match against Lehigh could feature as many as four ranked bouts with Tech’s No. 18 Dennis Gustafson face No. 8 Scott Parker at 133; No. 4 David McFadden vs. No. 20 Gordon Wolff (165); No. 8 Zack Zavatsky vs. No. 4 Ryan Preisch (184); No. 18 Andrew Dunn vs. No. 12 Jordan Wood at 285. On Saturday, 18th-ranked Dunn will face the Blue Devils’ fourth-ranked Jacob Kasper. [Full Preview]

Women’s Basketball

2 p.m. – Miami

Virginia Tech will host Miami at Cassell Coliseum. Taylor Emery leads the Hokies with 16.8 points per game while Regan Magarity adding 14.2 points and a team-high 9.6 rebounds per game. Chanette Hicks is chipping in 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 3.4 steals per game. Miami is receiving votes in the Coaches’ Poll and is currently in the middle of the ACC standings.

AWAY EVENTS
Track & Field
Jan. 26-27 | All Day
Liberty Kickoff (Lynchburg, Va.)
Bob Pollack Invitational (Clemson, S.C.)

No. 12 track and field will split up once again this weekend, competing at two meets. Select sprinters and the pole vault and jumps/multi-events groups will head to Clemson for the Bob Pollack Invitational on Friday and Saturday and the distance runners will make the trek to Liberty for the Liberty Kickoff on Saturday. The Hokies are coming off four first-place finishes last weekend, as Laurie Barton (800 meters), Lisa Gunnarsson (pole vault), Patrick Joseph (3,000) and Rachel Pocratsky (mile) all won their respected events. Virginia Tech 4 - Penn State 1

Virginia Tech takes to the road for a pair of matches including a neutral site tilt against Penn State. The Hokies opened the dual slate last weekend, going 2-0 in a doubleheader at home. Tech holds the all-time record against both opponents with a 3-0 tally versus the Tide and a 16-9 record against PSU. Virginia Tech defeated Alabama last season 4-2 and Penn State 4-1 when the teams last met back in 2015. [Full Preview]

Men’s Basketball
Jan. 27 | Notre Dame, Ind.

The Hokies will look to build after Monday’s 80-69 win over 10th-ranked North Carolina. Ahmed Hill leads five Hokies in double-digit scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. Kerry Blackshear Jr. is adding 13.5 ppg with Justin Bibbs (13.3 ppg), Justin Robinson (12.5 ppg) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (11.4 ppg) all tallying more than 10 per game. Chris Clarke leads on the boards with 6.9 rpg. The Hokies and Irish are both 3-4 in the league with Tech holding a 14-6 overall mark to Notre Dame’s 13-7.
