BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department’s Office of Student-Athlete Development will be holding its annual Student-Athlete Career Jumpstart to be held Feb. 20 inside the president’s suite at Lane Stadium. Event sponsors include Union Bank, Carilion Clinic and Kohl’s.
An exclusive event for just juniors and seniors, the Career Jumpstart provides opportunities for Hokie student-athletes to enhance career development skills, while interacting with alumni and professionals to make connections, learn about specific career fields, and enhance their networking skills. The evening will consist of a career expert panel, industry information session, and the Connect VT Networking Reception presented by Union Bank.
Those on the career expert panel include John Asbury, president and CEO of Union Bank & Trust; Donna Wertalik, associate professor of practice in marketing and the director of marketing for the Pamplin College of Business; and Bimbo Coles, former Virginia Tech men’s basketball standout and NBA player. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in finance, coaching, communications, marketing, real estate, and healthcare and also learn about graduate school admissions.
Student-athletes in attendance will have the opportunity to have a professional headshot taken by athletics department photographer Dave Knachel.
Student-athletes need to register to attend the event. For those wanting to do that or looking for more information on the event, please contact Reyna Gilbert-Lowry at reygil@vt.edu.
