CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The evening began with Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper falling to Jose Gracia and Terrance Whitehurst 6-3 over on court 3 to kick off the scoring. The Seminoles’ Aziz Douglaz and Michael Rinaldi followed with a 6-3 win of their own over Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro in the 2 slot, giving Florida State the early 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

The match between Tech’s 15th-ranked duo of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro and Florida State’s 16th-ranked Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez went unfinished on court 1.

Florida State went ahead 2-0 as Whitehurst topped Aaron Gomez 6-0, 6-2 on 6 to kick off singles play. Tessaro then put the Hokies in the scoring column with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Dougaz over on 4 before No. 22 Monteiro downed the nation’s No. 9 player in Lock on 1 to put Tech up 2-1.

No. 66 Bjerrehus put the Hokies within a point of clinching the match on court 2 by beating No. 69 Nunez 7-5, 7-6 (5) before Florida State knotted it at 3 with a 2-6, 7-5, 2-6 win by Gracia against Harper on 5.

It call came down to court 3 where No. 107 Contini was locked in a third-set battle with the Noles’ Michael Rinaldi, where he trailed four games to one. Contini battled to tie it at 4 apiece before Rinaldi took the 5-4 lead. The two went back and forth until it was tied at 6, and the semifinal berth came down to a tiebreaker. There, Contini took full control, beating Rinaldi 6-2 and earning the Hokies a date with Wake Forest on Saturday.
