CARY, N.C. – The 36^th-ranked/6^th-seeded Virginia Tech men’s tennis team shut out 11^th-seeded Miami 4-0 on Friday in second round action at the ACC Championship in Cary, N.C. on Thursday. The Hokies (16-7, 8-5 ACC) advance to face 3^rd-seeded Florida State in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. on Friday while Miami’s season comes to a close at an 8-15, 3-10 ACC mark.

Tech was in control from the beginning of the afternoon, starting with the 15^th-ranked duo of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro taking care of No. 72 Max Andrews and Bernard Tefel 6-2 in the one spot. Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper then clinched the doubles point for the Hokies, defeating Miami’s Jesse Flores and Kevin Bondar 6-4 on 3 to move the score to 1-0. Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro’s tilt on court 2 was tied 5-5 before doubles play was called.

No. 107 Contini didn’t waste any time getting the Hokies their second point, quickly defeating Flores 6-1, 6-1 on court 3 to put Tech up a pair. Following Contini was No. 74 Tessaro, who took down Fermin Calvo 6-0, 6-3 out of the 4 slot to put Tech within a point of clinching the sweep.

Mitch Harper took it from there, besting Tefel 6-3, 6-1 on court 5 to seal the deal and send the Hokies into Friday’s quarterfinals. No. 22 Monteiro, No. 66 Bjerrehus and Jai Corbett were all leading their current sets as well when play was called.
