No. 40 Hokies to host Miami in regular season finale
Tech will recognize seniors Bjerrehus, Contini, Gomez, Monteiro, Ribas and Tessaro

BLACKSBURG – The 40th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will wrap up the regular season on Friday, April 15 when the Hokies host Miami in a 2 p.m. match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech will recognize its six seniors with Andreas Bjerrehus, Amerigo Contini, Aaron Gomez, Joao Monteiro, Rafael Ribas and Edoardo Tessaro set for their final match in Blacksburg.

Tech (14-7, 6-5 ACC) is looking to bounce back after a loss to Georgia Tech last weekend. The Hokies are led by Monteiro who enters the match ranked 25th in this week’s ITA standings. Monteiro has tallied a 12-6 record this spring playing in the No. 1 spot. Bjerrehus is 65th with a 14-3 mark in duals, including 10-3 at the two. Tessaro is ranked 80th and has a 10-6 tally. Contini rounds out the Hokies in the ITA standings at 108th with a 12-5 record including 7-4 at the three.

Gomez is 7-3 in duals while Jai Corbett is 11-4. Freshman Mitch Harper has posted a 10-8 record.

Bjerrehus and Monteiro are also ranked in the doubles standings at 12th. The duo is 10-3 on the season playing in the top of the line-up.

Miami (8-12, 3-7 ACC) is coming off a 5-2 home win over Louisville. The Hurricanes clamed the doubles point and four singles matches to secure the win.

Piotr Lomack has a 14-6 record at the No. 1 in duals this spring and enters the weekend ranked 37th. Christian Langmo is also in the ITA standings for the ‘Canes at 82nd with a 7-1 tally at the two. Jesses Flores is 10-7 while Max Andreas is 9-11.

Andrews has paired up with Bernard Tefel for a 6-4 record in doubles and the pair is 72nd in the ITA.

Following the match, the Hokies will honor their seniors on the court. This is the final match before Tech takes the court next week for the ACC Championships.
