CLEMSON, S.C. – The 40th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over ACC foe Clemson on Friday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, South Carolina.

Tech (14-6, 6-4 ACC) took the doubles point to go out on top 1-0 to start the match as Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro paired up on two to take down Clemson’s (13-12, 4-6 ACC) duo of Austin Ansari and Arturo Pinazo 6-2.

The Hokies clinched the point on three where Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper paired up for a 6-3 decision against Robert Dudley and Daffra Sanon.

In singles, the Tigers got on the board first with a victory at four, but the Hokies quickly reclaimed the lead when 67th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus rolled past Sanon 6-2, 6-2 on court two.

Tech pushed its lead to 3-1 with 19th-ranked Joao Monteiro knocking off Luke Johnson 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1. Clemson scored another point with the next finished singles match, but the Hokies clinched the team win on six where Aaron Gomez battled Brent Lett to three sets.

Gomez dropped the first set to Lett 6-2, but came back in the second with the two tied at 5-5 before Gomez scored two to win it 7-5. In the final set, Gomez rolled to the 6-2 win to secure the match for Tech.

The Hokies picked up their final point on five. Corbett won 7-5 over Harris in the opening set, but the Clemson player came back to win the second 6-3. Corbett clinched it 6-3 in the third.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court on Sunday, April 10 in a noon match at No. 31 Georgia Tech.
