No. 40 Hokies hit the road for Clemson, No. 31 Georgia Tech
Tech faces Tigers Friday before taking on the Yellow Jackets Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 40th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of ACC matches beginning on Friday April 8 in a 2 p.m. match at Clemson. Virginia Tech will remain on the road to play 31st-ranked Georgia Tech on Sunday at noon.

The Hokies (13-6, 5-4 ACC) are coming off a 6-1 win over Notre Dame the last time out. Virginia Tech claimed the doubles point and won five of the six singles to secure the win.

Tech is led by a quartet of players in this week’s ITA singles standings. Joao Monteiro, ranked 19th, has tallied an 11-5 record in the spring season playing at the No. 1 while Andreas Bjerrehus moves up to 67th with a 12-3 tally this spring. Edoardo Tessaro is 83rd at 10-4 while Amerigo Contini rounds out the rankings, entering the standings at 91st with a 12-4 mark.

The Hokies also have a doubles team ranked with Bjerrehus and Monteiro at 13th, having posted a 10-3 record in the No. 1 this spring.

Clemson (13-11, 4-5 ACC) held off Miami the last time out, winning 4-3 over the Hurricanes. The Tigers won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from Christian Harris, Daffra Sanon and Austin Ansari.

Alex Favrot is 106th in the latest ITA singles standings and has a 14-8 record in duals, including 12-7 at the one. Luke Johnson is 12-9 as is Sanon. Ansari and Harris have both tallied seven wins in 2016. Clemson’s doubles tandem of Favrot and Johnson is 10-5 on the season.

Georgia Tech (14-5, 7-2 ACC) knocked off Boston College 6-1 last weekend with the Yellow Jackets’ lone loss coming at the three. Leading Georgia Tech on the season is Christopher Eubanks who enters the weekend ranked 12th nationally with a 15-2 tally at the one. Nathan Rakitt is 11-2 while Carlos Benito is 11-7, playing primarily at the two.

The Yellow Jackets have two doubles teams in the standings with Casey and Michael Kay at 32nd. The brothers have posted a 7-5 record in duals and are 15-9 overall in 2015-16. Eubanks has also paired up with Benito in doubles with the pair ranked 64th with a 11-2 record this spring.
