CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The 39th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team rolled past ACC foe Boston College 7-0 on Sunday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Tech (9-3, 2-1 ACC) got out to the 1-0 lead in the match after picking up the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper teamed up to shutout the BC (3-8, 1-3 ACC) duo of Aidan McNulty and Kent Mukai 6-0.
The Hokies’ 21st-ranked pair of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro clinched the point with a 6-1 decision over Alexandre Thriouin and Hank Workman in the No. 1.
Tech claimed all six singles matches in straight sets with Aaron Gomez and Amerigo Contini giving up just two games in their respective matches. Gomez downed Will Turner 6-1, 6-1 on court six while Contini had the 6-1, 6-1 decision over Workman in the No. 2.
Bjerrehus defeated McNulty in the No. 1 with scores of 6-1, 6-4. Harper had the win in the No. 4, defeating Thirouin 6-3, 6-2.
Tech’s 59th-ranked Edoardo Tessaro defeated Jeffrey Melvin 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 3 while Corbett clinched a win over Kyle Childree 6-4, 7-5 on court five.
The Hokies will return to the court on Wednesday, March 16 when they host VCU in a 1:30 p.m. match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
