BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 19th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host non-conference foe UMBC on Friday, Feb. 12 in a 2 p.m. match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Virginia Tech (4-2) is looking to bounce back after falling to 8th-ranked Ohio State on the road the last time out. The last time the Hokies were at BBTC, they defeated Richmond, 5-2 and St. Bonaventure, 7-0 in a doubleheader.
New ITA rankings came out this week with the Hokies’ Joao Monteiro making the move up one spot to 13th in the singles standings. He and Andreas Bjerrehus also had a big jump in doubles, moving into 11th place. Edoardo Tessaro is also in the singles standings, coming in at 52nd.
Bjerrehus, Monteiro and Tessaro have all tallied 3-1 records in singles during the early part of dual play this season. Mitch Harper and Amerigo Contini have posted records of 2-1.
UMBC (1-7) is coming off a close 4-3 loss at Yale. The Retrievers dropped the doubles point, but picked up points in singles as Justin Carter, Eliot Loubatie and Biyik Akinshemoyin all claimed wins.
