BLACKSBURG – The 19th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to play three matches this weekend starting with a home doubleheader on Friday as St. Bonaventure and Richmond come to Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. match, respectively. Tech will then take to the road for a Sunday match at No. 8 Ohio State scheduled for noon.

Virginia Tech (2-1) is coming off a 7-0 sweep of No. 58 Boise State. The Hokies took the early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3. In singles, the Hokies gave up just one set, winning the other five matches in straight-sets. The Hokies’ 14th-ranked Joao Monteiro, Amerigo Contini, Andreas Bjerrehus, 46th-ranked Edoardo Tessaro, Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper all picked up wins.

St. Bonaventure (1-2) fell to Colgate 5-2 in the Bonnies’ last match. The Bonnies picked up points with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles where Eduardo Irizarry and Victor Blanco tallied victories. St. Bonaventure returns three key players from last season’s team that finished 4-12. Tech defeated St. Bonaventure last season 7-0.

Richmond (1-3) gave up a 5-2 decision to Coastal Carolina the last time out. The Spiders’ Caleb Troy picked up a win at the No. 3 singles and Richmond claimed the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3. The Spiders have six key returners back from last season’s team that went 17-7 and was the top-seeded team in the A-10 tournament.

Ohio State is off to a strong start in 2016, having already compiled a 7-0 record. It is Tech’s second top-20 matchup of the season as the Hokies faced Stanford as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Buckeyes have yet to give up a point this season and are led by 7th-ranked Mikael Torpegaard and 10th-ranked Hugo Di Feo. Ohio State’s Chris Diaz is 19th while Herkko Pollanen checks in at 25th. The Buckeyes also have two doubles teams in the Top-25 standings. OSU holds a 7-1 lead in the series.

Following this weekend, the Hokies are back at home to host UMBC in a 2 p.m. match on Friday, Feb. 12.
