TULSA, Okla. – Seniors Edoardo Tessaro and Joao Monteiro both advanced to the next round of the qualifying draw on Monday at the 2015 ITA Men’s Tennis All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Hokies’ 109th-ranked Tessaro squared off against seventh-seeded and 63rd-ranked Ralf Steinbach of Ohio State in the first round. Tessaro had a decisive win over the Buckeyes’ player, defeating Steinbach in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Monteiro, ranked 70th and seeded 12th in the field, gave up just four games in the two-set match against Carlos Bautista, defeating the Tulsa player 6-2, 6-2.
The two will be back on the court on Tuesday for the second round of qualifying singles. Monteiro will also take to the court for qualifying doubles with teammate Andreas Bjerrehus.
