Tech wraps up day at Ivy Plus
Tessaro claims a pair of wins in singles

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.

Tech’s Edoardo Tessaro claimed a pair of wins in the back draw of the Tiger singles bracket, defeating Tennessee’s Luis Valero, 6-4, 7-5. Tessaro followed that up with a victory over Penn State’s Roman Trkulja in straight set scores of 6-3, 7-5.

Freddy Mesmer had a win over Penn’s Zach Lessen 6-2, 7-5, but fell in the next two matches to Brown’s Aaron Sandberg and Columbia’s Timothy Wang in the Pagoda Draw.

In the Whitman Draw, George Cartlege defeated Indiana’s Chris Essick 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday.

In doubles, Jason Kros and Cartledge paired up for two wins, defeating Michigan’s Myles Schalet and Gabe Tishman 8-3. The Hokies’ duo followed up for an 8-1 win over Penn’s Josh Pompan and Ismael Lahou.

The Hokies wrap up the Ivy Plus on Sunday.
