BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will be back on the court this weekend, splitting up to compete at two events as the Hokies travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the UVA Ranked+1 and Princeton, New Jersey to compete in the Ivy Plus.
Aaron Gomez, Jai Corbett, Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro will make the short trip up to UVA while Jason Kros, George Cartledge, Freddy Mesmer and Edoardo Tessaro head to Princeton.
The field at the UVA event will consist of ITA-ranked players including student-athletes from Wake Forest, Miami, North Florida, Penn State, Kentucky, ETSU, VCU and host-team Virginia.
The tournament will consist of two 16-player singles draws, the orange bracket and the blue bracket, and two eight-team doubles draw. All matches at the tournament will be played with no-ad scoring, with doubles consisting of an eight-game pro set and singles played in a best-of-three sets format. Friday's play begins at 10 a.m. and will feature two rounds of doubles, followed by one round of singles. Saturday's action starts at 10 a.m. with the final round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles. The final round of singles will be on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
At the Ivy Plus, Tech will compete against all eight Ivy League teams as well as players from Bucknell, Buffalo, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, NJIT, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, Penn State, St. John’s, Tennessee, Tulsa and Wisconsin.
The tournament will start 8:30 a.m. each day and will feature eight singles flights and two doubles flights.
