BLACKSBURG – Five members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team have earned preseason rankings as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, the ITA released its selections for the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships with six Hokies being named to the field.
Andreas Bjerrehus, Amerigo Contini and Joao Monteiro return to the rankings after finishing last season in the top-125 while Edoardo Tessaro makes his first appearance in the standings. Bjerrehus comes in at 28th after finishing last year with a 25-11 overall record. Contini is 43rd after going 22-12 last year while Monteiro is tabbed at 70th with a 23-8 record in 2014-15. Tessaro finished the season 18-4 and enters the fall ranked 109th.
Bjerrehus is also ranked in doubles with teammate Jai Corbett at 49th.
For the ITA All-American Championships, Bjerrehus and Contini have earned bids to the main draw while Tessaro and Monteiro will start competition in the qualifying rounds. Corbett and Aaron Gomez have been named to the pre-qualifying field.
In doubles, Bjerrehus and Corbett are set to compete in the qualifying rounds to start the competition.
The Hokies will return to the court this weekend with the team splitting up to go to the Ivy Plus Tournament and the UVA Ranked +1.
