No. 14 Hokies wrap up regular season at Miami, No. 32 FSU
Tech to face Canes on Friday, Noles on Sunday

BLACKSBURG – The 14th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to wrap up the regular season this weekend, beginning with a trip to Miami on Friday, April 17 take on the Hurricanes at 2 p.m. The Hokies will then travel north to face No. 32 Florida State on Sunday, April 19 at noon.

Virginia Tech (17-3, 8-2 ACC) is coming off a 6-1 win over Georgia Tech last weekend. The Hokies took the doubles point to get off to a strong start and picked up singles wins from Andreas Bjerrehus, Hunter Koontz, Joao Monteiro, Edoardo Tessaro and Jai Corbett.

Bjerrehus enters this weekend ranked 38th in the ITA standings and hast posted a 15-4 record this spring, including a 12-2 mark in the No. 2. Amerigo Contini is 68th with an 11-5 record, including 10-4 in the No. 1. Koontz, ranked No. 103, has put together a solid senior campaign with a record of 16-2 in duals. Monteiro enters the week at No. 110 with an 11-4 mark. Tessaro has tallied a 15-3 record while Corbett is 10-2. Bjerrehus and Koontz are also ranked in doubles at 63rd.

Miami (7-14, 1-9 ACC) fell to NC State 7-0 the last time out and is looking to snap a four-match slide in which the Hurricanes have been shutout. Piotr Lomacki is leading the Hurricanes, ranked No. 73 with a 9-8 record in the No. 1. Henrique Tsukamoto is 8-10 in duals while Christian Langmo has a 7-11 tally. Wilfredo Gonzalez is 8-11.

The Hokies defeated the Hurricanes 6-1 last season in Blacksburg and picked up a 7-0 win the last time in Coral Gables. Tech has won the last three matches against Miami.

Florida State (18-7, 6-4 ACC) fell to Duke 7-0 on the road last weekend and will face 4th-ranked Virginia on Friday prior to taking on the Hokies on Sunday. The Seminoles’ Michale Rinaldi is ranked 95th in the ITA and has posted a 12-5 record this season in duals. Benjamin Lock, ranked 98th, is 12-6, playing primarily in the No. 1. Lock is also ranked in doubles at 13th with teammate Marco Nunez. Christian Gonzalez Mendez and Jose Gracia are both 12-7 for the Noles.

Virginia Tech had a 5-2 win over FSU last season in Blacksburg and claimed a 4-3 victory the last time the two met in Tallahassee. The Hokies have won the last five of the last six regular-season matches against FSU with four of those being decided by scores of 4-3.

The Hokies, currently in second in the league, will make the trip to Cary, N.C. next week for the 2015 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship.
