BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 16th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to host 14th-ranked North Carolina on Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech (13-2, 5-1 ACC) enters the match ranked second in the ACC and is coming off a 4-3 win over 37th-ranked NC State last weekend. The Hokies claimed the doubles point against the Wolfpack while Amerigo Contini, Hunter Koontz and Edoardo Tessaro claimed big wins in singles to secure the match for Tech.
Andreas Bjerrehus enters the match ranked 45th and has tallied an 11-3 mark this spring. Contini is 63rd and is 10-2 while Joao Monteiro comes in at 109th with an 8-2 record. Koontz and Tessaro have both had strong dual seasons at 12-1.
North Carolina (14-7, 3-2 ACC) fell to Virginia 6-1 in Charlottesville on Friday before making the trip to Blacksburg. Oystein Steiro claimed the point for the Heels in the No. 5 singles.
UNC’s Brayden Schnur is ranked 12th, but has been sidelined by injury for the past six matches. Ronnie Schneider is 24th and has an 11-6 record in duals. Ranked 69th, Brett Clark has tallied a 12-4 mark while Robert Kelly, ranked 99th, is 15-2.
Following Sunday’s match, the Hokies will return to the road traveling to Louisville on Friday, April 3.
