No. 15 Tech sweeps past Boston College 7-0
Tech wins all doubles and singles matches

BLACKSBURG – The 15th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team swept past ACC foe Boston College 7-0, winning all three doubles and all six singles matches on Friday afternoon.

Tech (11-1, 3-0 ACC) claimed the three doubles matches beginning with Hunter Koontz and Florian Nicoud pairing up in the No. 3 to take down Boston College’s (4-6, 0-1 ACC) Alexandre Thirouin and Matt Wagner, 8-2.

The Hokies clinched the doubles point with the win on court two where Joao Monteiro and Edoardo Tessaro defeated Kyle Childree and Hank Workman, 8-5. Tech’s 64th ranked Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini had the 8-4 win on court one over Phil Nelson and Conor Mullins.

In the singles, Tessaro put the Hokies up 2-0 with the 6-0, 6-1 win against Kent Mukai in the No. 4. Koontz claimed a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Childree on court three to give Tech a 3-0 lead.

Tech’s 40th-ranked Bjerrehus clinched the team win for the Hokies as he defeated Workman 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2.

The Hokies also claimed a win in the No. 1 as 55th-ranked Contini dropped Nelson in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.

Nicoud gave the Hokies a 6-0 lead with the 6-1, 6-1 decision over Will Turner in the No. 5 while Aaron Gomez completed the sweep for Tech, downing Mullins 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court on Sunday, March 15, hosting No. 62 Clemson at 1 p.m. at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
