Tech sees season come to an end in the Second Round

East Lansing, Mich. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (10-10) fell 3-0 to the seven seed Michigan State (12-3-3) in the NCAATtournament’s second round Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans struck quickly, finding the the back of the net in the fifth minute off a shot from Ryan Sierakowski, with assists credited to Dejuan Jones and Ken Krolicki

The Hokies got what was believed to be a tying goal in the 12th minute from a Collin Verfurth header, but the whistle had gone for offsides.

Jones was rewarded with his unselfish play in the 19th minute with a shot from 12-yards out that curled into the top right, Krolicki and Michael Pimlott assisted on the goal.

Pimlott was then rewarded with his unselfish play in the 39th minute, knocking in a shot from 20-yards out with assists from Michael Marcantognini and Krolicki.

At the break, the Spartans led 3-0 but were outshot by the Hokies 8-6.

The Hokies were aggressive in the second half but were unable to capitalize on any of their five shots. The closest opprotunity was in the 53rd minute when Elias Tamburini had a give-and-go to Camron Lennon that was halted by the Spartan defense.

In the goal for the Hokies, Ben Lundgaard came up with four saves on the afternoon.

Notes

The Hokies outshot the Spartans 13-12.

The Spartans held the advantage in corner kicks 5-3.

This was the second year in a row that the Hokies made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
