BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to seventh-ranked Louisville Friday night at Thompson Field.

The Hokies’ bid to win six games in a row was ended in the 77th minute when Louisville crossed a ball into the 18-yard box which deflected off of a Hokie player and bounced into the far post net.

Tech (7-5, 2-3) had opportunities to find a goal of their own through the boots of Marcelo Acuna, Forrest White and James Kasak. White and Acuna put shots on frame that were covered well by Louisville keeper Will Meyer.

The No. 7 Cardinals (8-1-2, 4-1) managed 17 shots during the 90 minutes, placing seven on Ben Lundgaard’s goal. The senior keeper, who leads the ACC in saves made six on the night.

Mohamed Thiaw led the line for Louisville, picking up dangerous passes and finding open space. He finished the game with four shots.

Both teams earned four corner kicks while Louisville was caught offside three times compared to Tech’s zero.

Next up
Tech returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a road contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies’ next contest at Thompson Field will be Senior Day against North Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2:30 p.m. Be there as we honor the senior class for their contribution to Virginia Tech soccer. Admission is free.
