BLACKSBURG- The No. 23 Virginia Tech men’s soccer (10-4-3, 3-4-1) will travel to Boston College to play the First Round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday. The ninth-seeded Hokies will look for a win against the eighth-seeded Eagles (7-7-2, 3-3-2) at 7 p.m. in Newton.
Tech heads to Newtown after winning the regular season finale last Friday against Pittsburgh. The Hokies were able to win it 2-1 with goals from Humberto Montero and Gino Rossi.
This is the 19th 10-win season for the VT program which included going unbeaten in non-conference play and conference wins against NC State, Duke and Pittsburgh. Marcelo Acuna continues to lead the team in goals, points and shots but 14 Hokies have now tallied goals and 17 have accumulated points.
Scouting Boston College
The Eagles have had a .500% season in their overall games and in the conference. The Eagles won the chance to host the First Round on Saturday when they defeated NC State in overtime. Boston College took down the Wolfpack as NC State had miscommunication and scored an own goal to give it to the Eagles. Trevor Savock had a hat trick against NC State to spark their offensive to five goals.
The team was not ranked in the week’s NSCAA Coaches’ Poll but was receiving votes. Their RPI is 22 adding to the strength of the ACC Conference.
The Last Meeting
These teams last met in the 2015 regular season when the Hokies hosted the Eagles. Boston College was able to win it 4-1 to bring the all-time series to 10-1-2 in BC’s favor. Tech has only beaten Boston College once in 2003 when they won 2-1 in overtime.
