BLACKSBURG- The No. 23 Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (9-4-3) will host the University of Pittsburgh (2-11-3) on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Thompson Field with Senior Night celebrations during pregame.
The Hokies return home this week after suffering a loss to No. 3 North Carolina last Saturday. Tech moved to fourth in the ACC Coastal Division with a 2-4-1 conference record. Tech looks for their tenth win of the season with this last game against the Panthers.
Before kickoff, the players, coaches and staff will honor six Virginia Tech seniors in Juan Pablo Saavedra, Alessandro Mion, Brian Howard, Som Essome, Ousmane Sanogo and Andre Thomas as they plan to graduate this December and May.
Scouting Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Panthers are currently last in the ACC Coastal Division with a conference record of 0-5-2. Pitt comes to Blacksburg after a big game last Friday against No. 16 Virginia. The Panthers were able to shut them out for a scoreless tie. They have yet to win a conference game this season but also tied Duke after 110 minutes of play earlier this season.
Their leading goal scorer, Luca Mellor, is a true freshman for the Panthers. He leads the team with three goals. Their goal keeper Mikal Outcalt is 11th in the nation or saves and 2nd for total saves made.
The Panthers have never won an ACC Conference game since joining the league in 2013.
The Last Meeting
Last year, these two teams battled to a scoreless tie in Pittsburgh. Virginia Tech has not lost holding the series at 2-0-4. Their largest win came in 2003 (6-0) at home.
