GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-round total of 576 and is in 12th place with an even-par 576 at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Sunday. The two-day event, hosted by UNC Greensboro is being played at the par-72, 6,800-yard West Course at the Grandover Resort, outside of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Tech shot a 2-over 290 in the morning round and improved to a two-under 286 in the afternoon session.
Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, leads the Hokies, posting a two-round total of 2-under 142, tied for 27th overall. He enters the final round six strokes behind Ruben Sondjaja of Iowa State and Nick Budd of Georgia State. Suwannarut’s 4-under 68 in the second round was the low individual round of the day for the Hokies.
Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, is tied for 31st at 143 and Logan Yates, a sophomore from Ruckersville, Virginia, is tied for 43rd at 145. Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 46th at 146 and Tanner Owens, a freshman from Milton, Tennessee, is tied for 68th at 152.
Two Hokies are playing the tournament as individuals. Drew Johnson, a senior from nearby Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is tied for 68th at 152 and Tom Crow, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is 84th at 162.
Duke holds the team lead entering the final round on Monday. The Blue Devils are at 26-under 550, seven strokes ahead of Northwestern and nine strokes ahead of Iowa State and Liberty. NC State is fifth at 561, host UNC Greensboro is sixth at 562 and Kansas State, Purdue, VCU and Utah are tied for seventh at 571, three strokes ahead of Georgia State and five strokes ahead of the Hokies. Davidson is 13th at 598.
The final round will be played Monday morning, Tech will be grouped with Utah and Georgia State in the 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
