ATLANTA – For the first time in school history, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team won an ACC game by 20 points on the road, as it rolled to a 76-56 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon inside McCamish Pavilion.

The Hokies (19-8, 8-6 ACC) earned their fifth win away from home in league play – their first time owning a winning road conference record in the ACC – while the Yellow Jackets (11-16, 4-10 ACC) dropped their fifth straight game.

Junior Justin Robinson registered a team-high 18 points and four assists, freshman Nickeil Alexander-Walker posted 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks and senior Justin Bibbs tallied 10 points and four assists.

Trailing 14-8 in the opening minutes, Virginia Tech responded with 10 straight points behind back-to-back triples from Bibbs. The Hokies kept their momentum the rest of the half, tying an ACC high on the season with seven 3-pointers.

Virginia Tech went into the locker room with a 43-29 lead in large part due to finishing the frame on an 18-6 run, with 12 of those points coming in the lane.

Keeping the pressure on in the second half, the Hokies poured it on with going up by as many as 35 points at the 9:35 mark. Virginia Tech continued to get out in transition throughout the remainder of contest, scoring 24 points on fast breaks compared to the Yellow Jackets’ nine.

Georgia Tech’s Tadric Jackson, the brother of the Hokies’ Tyrie Jackson, paced the Yellow Jackets by registering a team-high 17 points.

NOTES

• Robinson passed Dell Curry (1982-86) on the career all-time assists list, moving into fifth place in program history with 408 assists.

• Redshirt senior Devin Wilson also cracked the 400-assist plateau, dishing out four assists on the day to make him the seventh Hokie to own more than 400 assists in a career.

• Virginia Tech nailed seven triples in the first half, marking the fourth time in conference play of doing so.

• The Hokies outscored the Yellow Jackets 38-22 in the paint, and assisted on 21 of their 28 made shots.

• Virginia Tech shot north of 50 percent for the sixth time this season in conference play, owning a percentage of 52.8.

STAT OF THE GAME

• Virginia Tech won its fifth ACC game in its storied history by at least 20 points. The last time that happened was versus Georgia Tech on Feb. 13, 2011, when it was victorious by a score of 102-77 in Blacksburg.
