FARMVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech senior guard Erick Green has been named the Virginia Player of the Year, as selected in the annual voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) for the 2013 University Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team.

Green, a 6-4 senior from Winchester, averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 48 percent from the field, 39 percent on three-point field goals and 82 percent at the free throw line. He was named third team All-America by the Associated Press (AP), first team All-District II by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, first team All-ACC, as well as the Richmond Times-Dispatch State Player of the Year.

The nation’s leading scorer, Green scored in double figures in every game this past season and led the ACC in scoring in both overall games and conference games. Green set a new shool record with 801 points scored this season, breaking the old mark of 785 by Bimbo Coles in the 1989-90 season. In the regular season finale at Wake Forest, he scored his 1,700th career point and moved past Ace Custis into 10th place in career scoring at Virginia Tech.

Green was joined on the VaSID first team by Virginia junior Joe Harris, VCU sophomore Treveon Graham, VMI senior Stan Okoye and Norfolk State junior Pendarvis Williams. The second team included Virginia junior Akil Mitchell, JMU senior Devon Moore, VCU junior Juvonte Reddic, William and Mary sophomore Marcus Thornton and George Mason junior Sherrod Wright, Jr.
