Virginia Tech vs. Duke Game Notes

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech will host the sixth-ranked Duke Blue Devils in Cassell Coliseum on Thursday night. The game, televised nationally by ESPN, will tip at 9 p.m. This will be the first of two meetings between the two schools in the next 12 days.

About Tonight’s Game

The Hokies are 11-14 on the season and 2-10 in ACC play after losing in overtime at NC State on Saturday afternoon.

Duke is 22-3 overall and 9-3 in ACC action after an 83-81 loss at Maryland on Saturday.

Duke is ranked sixth in both the AP and coaches polls.

This is the first meeting between these two schools in the next 12 days.

NC State 90, Virginia Tech 86, OT

Erick Green scored 29 points and Jarell Eddie added 17 points off the bench in the overtime loss at NC State. Marshall Wood recorded his first career double-double with a career-high 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the game.

Erick Green leads the ACC and the nation in scoring.

Green has scored 20-or-more points in 23 of the 25 games this season.

Green’s 25.3 ppg this season is tied for the Virginia Tech senior season record of 25.3 ppg, set by Bimbo Coles in his senior season of 1990.

Will Johnston made his first career start at Virginia.

Odds & Ends

Erick Green’s 35 points in the home loss to Virginia marks the most points by an ACC player in a game this season. Green has three of the ACC’s eight 30-plus point games this season.

The Hokies have played in four of the six overtime games played this season by ACC teams. Tech defeated Georgia Tech and lost at UNC and at NC State in the only ACC conference overtime games this season.

The Hokies started four Virginians at Virginia. All five starters graduated from high schools in Virginia.
