Virginia Tech at NC State Game Notes

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech plays the second game of this two-game road swing at NC State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in PNC Arena. This will be the only meeting of the season between these two schools.

About Today’s Game

The Hokies are 11-13 on the season and 2-9 in ACC play after losing at Virginia on Tuesday night.

NC State is is 17-7 overall and 6-5 in ACC action after a 58-57 win at Clemson last Sunday.

This is the only meeting of the season between these two schools.

Virginia 72, Virginia Tech 55

Erick Green scored 22 points, 21 of which came in the second half in a 73-55 loss at Virginia on Tuesday night. Cadarian Raines added six points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Green Notes

Erick Green leads the ACC and the nation in scoring.

Green has scored 20-or-more points in 22 of the 24 games this season.

Green’s 25.2 ppg this season is one-tenth of a point behind the Virginia Tech senior season record of 25.3 ppg, set by Bimbo Coles in his senior season of 1990. Green is also in fourth place on the Virginia Tech single season scoring average list, regardless of class.

Green is the only active ACC player to score 1,500 career points. Miami’s Durand Scott should reach that mark this weekend.

Will Johnston made his first career start at Virginia on Tuesday night.

Odds & Ends

Erick Green’s 35 points in the home loss to Virginia marks the most points by an ACC player in a game this season. Green has three of the ACC’s eight 30-plus point games this season.

The Hokies have played in three of the five overtime games played this season by ACC teams. Tech defeated Georgia Tech and lost at UNC in the only ACC conference overtime games this season.

The Hokies started four Virginians Tuesday night at Virginia. All five starters graduated from high schools in Virginia.
