BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech travels to Charlottesville to take on arch-rival Virginia in John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
About Tonight’s Game
The Hokies are 11-12 on the season and 2-8 in ACC play after losing to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Virginia is 17-6 overall and 7-3 in ACC action after an 80-69 win at Maryland on Sunday.
This is the second meeting of the season between these two schools. The Cavaliers defeated the Hokies, 74-58, on Jan. 24, 2013 in Cassell Coliseum.
This is the most-played rivalry for the Hokies. The series dates back to 1915.
Georgia Tech 64, Virginia Tech 54
Erick Green scored 28 points in a 64-54 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday. Robert Brown added 10 points in the loss.
Green Notes
Erick Green leads the ACC and the nation in scoring.
Green has scored 20-or-more points in 21 of the 23 games this season.
Green’s 25.3 ppg this season is tied for the Virginia Tech senior season record of 25.3 ppg, set by Bimbo Coles in his senior season of 1990.
Green was helped off the court Saturday after the loss to Georgia Tech and was diagnosed with dehydration. He did not go to the hospital and is expected to play tonight.
Rankin Returns
Marquis Rankin missed the Maryland game due to the flu, but returned to action against Georgia Tech.
Odds & Ends
Erick Green’s 35 points in the loss to Virginia marks the most points by an ACC player in a game this season. Green has three of the ACC’s eight 30-plus point games this season.
The Hokies have played in three of the five overtime games played this season by ACC teams. Tech defeated Georgia Tech and lost at UNC in the only ACC conference overtime games this season.
Tonight marks the Hokies’ first nationally-televised game of the ACC season and just its fourth of the season.
