Tech cross country teams return to action Friday
Hokies to compete in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite on their home course

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech cross country teams return to the course Friday evening for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite, which will be held at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course on the Tech campus.
The meet will feature 12 men’s teams, including the Hokies, who enter the meet ranked No. 26 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. Other teams competing include Florida State, Akron, Ohio, Morehead State, VMI, East Tennessee State, Ferrum College, Bridgewater College, Roanoke College, Lynchburg College and King University.
On the women’s side, 15 teams will be competing, including the Hokies. Others include Florida State, Akron, Ohio, Morehead State, VMI, East Tennessee State, Ferrum College, Bridgewater College, Roanoke College, Lynchburg College, King University, Hollins College, Washington and Lee University, and Sweet Briar.
The meet will mark the second of the season for both Tech squads. Katie Kennedy, a senior from Springfield, Virginia, won her first collegiate race nearly two weeks ago when she crossed the finish line first at the Hokie Invite in a time of 14 minutes, 53 seconds (4K race). On the men’s side, Andrew Goldman won his second collegiate race, as the redshirt junior from Herndon, Virginia finished the 6K event in a time of 18:30.7.
The Hokies’ alumni 4K race will start things, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The women’s 6K race will begin at 6 p.m., while the men’s 8K race starts at approximately 6:40 p.m.
