Facing the Wolfpack: Overall, Tech is 21-40-2 against NC State, in a series that dates back to the early 1900s (first game April 8, 1907). In a stretch of 40 years, the teams played almost 40 times, but from 1949 until the Hokies joined the ACC (2005), the teams faced off just seven times. In league play, the Hokies are 7-16 against NC State, and are just 3-9 in Raleigh during that time, 8-24-1 overall.

Epic game for Tech last time in Raleigh: In 2013, the Hokies and Wolfpack played a 14-inning contest on Friday night, which NC State won 8-7. The error-filled game (10 in all) was decided on a wild pitch. It tied for the longest game in school history - March 30, 1995, a 6-5 loss at James Madison, and April 9, 1990, a 5-4 victory over Liberty - and was the Hokies' longest ACC game ever played in terms of time (4:53), surpassing a 4:36-minute game against Virginia (March 9, 2012). That time has actually since been tied - last year's 20-13 win over Wake Forest (May 14) also lasted 4:53 minutes.

Tech drops back to second in nation in home runs: The Hokies and Wake Forest have been battling back and forth recently for the nation’s lead in home runs. The Demon Deacons hit three home runs Wednesday night against Davidson to take a two-homer lead on the Hokies (74-72). Mercer sits in third with 69 and Tennessee Tech has 66.
Tech and Wake have each played 43 games, but Wake is not scheduled to play another game until May 5, as the team has reached its BYE week. Tech will play four games from now until then, before the Hokies are on their BYE week (May 3-8). Either way, at this point, both teams have 12 games left on their regular-season schedule, while Mercer has just 10.
Since the Hokies joined the ACC (2005), Tech has surpassed 40 home runs hit in a season six times and 50 just four times. Within reach is the most home runs hit by a Tech team in an ACC season set by the 2010 squad with 81.

Hokies ranked in Top 25 nationally in five others: Entering the weekend, Tech is also ranked in the Top 25 in five other statistical categories, which includes: 4th in Hit By Pitch (74), 9th in Slugging Percentage (.495), 20th in Double Plays (40), 24th in Runs (299) and 28th in Hits (433).
