CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Ryan Tufts hit a first-inning solo home run over the left field fence, but that was all the scoring the Virginia Tech offense could muster as Marshall registered a 3-1 victory over the Hokies at Appalachian Power Park Wednesday evening.
Tech (17-14) actually had two hits in the first, with JD Mundy notching a single, but over the last eight frames, the Hokies were held to just two hits, two hit batsmen and one walk.
Marshall (13-14) took a 2-1 lead in the home half of the second, as one run scored on an error and Billy Sager’s RBI single plated Cory Garrastau with the go-ahead run. The Herd added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Tommy Lane.
Inside the box score
- Jack Owens: failed to reach base in four plate appearances ending his reached base at 21 straight games.
