Major League Baseball has hit its All-Star break, which seems to be the perfect time to recap how 18 former Virginia Tech baseball players are doing in their current professional careers. Only Jesse Hahn has played in the majors this season, but a total of eight Hokies have seen time in Triple-A, which includes six who are currently at the top minor league level.

Four were named to all-star teams and that includes both Chad Pinder and Ben Rowen who have been selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game being played tonight in Charlotte. The game will be broadcasted live on the MLB Network and starts at 7:05 p.m.

Below, by the highest level reached (alphabetically), are brief snippets on each of the professional Hokies (through July 12). CLICK HERE to view the “Following the Hokies” release that includes links to each players’ professional statistics page.

Jesse Hahn (Oakland) – Has seen time with the Oakland Athletics and is currently with the Nashville Sound (AAA) … Went 2-4 with a 6.49 ERA in seven starts with the A’s and struck out 16 batters in 34.2 innings pitched … With the Sound, has started 10 games, is currently 1-5 despite a 3.60 ERA and has 33 strikeouts in 45.0 innings.

Devin Burke (Colorado) – Has pitched at three different levels this season, with the majority of it coming for Asheville (A) … Appeared in one game for Albuquerque (AAA), three games for Hartford (AA), which included a 1.17 ERA and a save, and eight games for the Tourists … Is 1-2 with his current club, making three starts, while also earning a save for them as well … For the year, has tossed 26.1 innings, has 24 strikeouts and a 3.42 ERA.

Joe Mantiply (Detroit) – After appearing in 35 games, all out of the bullpen, for Erie (AA), was called up a week ago (July 6) to Toledo (AAA) … In two games, struck out two in a pair of innings for the Mud Hens … For the SeaWolves, was 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 35 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts and a 1.29 WHIP.

Chad Pinder (Oakland) – Has made his second straight All-Star game, this time for Nashville (AAA) … All season has played for the Sound, a total of 80 games … Is batting .257, slugging .422 and has a .308 on-base percentage … Has 81 hits, including 18 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs, has scored 51 times and has added 39 RBIs … Has drawn 18 walks and adds three stolen bases.

Ben Rowen (Toronto) – Has been named to his first All-Star game, making it for Buffalo (AAA) … All season has pitched for the Bison, appearing in 31 games, all out of the bullpen … Has an 0-3 mark with one save … In 40.0 innings pitched, has struck out 28 batters, has a 2.25 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.

Tim Smalling (Colorado) – Has spent the entire first-half of the season with Albuquerque (AAA) … Played in 59 games and posted a .236 average, a .313 slugging percentage and a .294 on-base percentage … Has 43 hits, including three doubles, a triple and three home runs, has scored 21 times and has added 20 RBIs and 14 walks.

Justin Wright (St. Louis) – Spent the majority of his time with Memphis (AAA) before heading to Springfield (AA) the past three weeks … Overall, has a 0-4 record with one save in 31 relief outings … Has tossed a total of 32.2 innings and has 26 strikeouts and a 5.23 ERA.

Mark Zagunis (Chicago) – Named to his second straight All-Star team, with Tennessee (AA), but had been called up to Iowa (AAA) before the game was played … With the Smokies, played in 51 games, batted .302, slugged .453 and had a .408 on base percentage … Had 54 hits, including 13 doubles, a triple and four home runs, while adding 30 runs scored, 24 RBIs and 30 walks … For Iowa, has appeared in 35 games, is batting .275 with a .496 slugging percentage and a .351 on-base mark … Has 36 hits, including 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs, while adding 22 runs, 16 RBIs, 16 walks and four stolen bases.

Tyler Horan (San Francisco) - Has spent the entire first-half of the season with Richmond (AA) … Played in 57 games and posted a .253 average, a .441 slugging percentage and a .323 on-base percentage … Has 43 hits, including nine doubles, a triple and seven home runs, has scored 24 times, has 18 RBIs and 18 walks … Adds three stolen bases to his totals.

Brad Markey (Chicago) – Has been named to his first All-Star game, making it for Tennessee (AA) … All season has pitched for the Smokies, appearing in 17 games with 15 starts and has posted a 6-4 record … In 87.0 innings pitched, has struck out 39 batters, has a 2.59 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.

Ronnie Shaban (St. Louis) – Has pitched for the Springfield Cardinals all season with some impressive numbers … Is currently 5-1 overall and has six saves in seven opportunities (Has a win or save in 11 of team’s 49 victories this year)… In his 29 relief opportunities, has thrown a total of 37.1 innings, has struck out 27 batters, has a 3.62 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.

Eddie Campbell (Seattle) – Has pitched for the Bakersfield Blaze Cardinals all season … Currently has a 10-5 record (of the team’s 52 victories), has won six of his last seven starts and leads the California League in wins … In his 17 appearances, 16 starts, has 92.0 innings pitched, has struck out 80 batters, has a 4.50 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP.

Alex Perez (Minnesota) – Is currently with Fort Myers (A+), but started the season in Cedar Rapids (A) … With the Miracle, is batting .284 in 24 games, 20 points higher than his average in his first 18 games with Kernels … Overall (42 games) this season, has a .274 average, a .326 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage … Has 37 hits, with five doubles and a triple, 16 runs, 17 RBIs and 23 walks.

Brendon Hayden (Philadelphia) – Has spent the entire year with the Lakewood BlueClaws (A) … In 60 games, is batting .265, slugging .319, and has a .333 on-base percentage … Has 54 hits, with seven doubles and two triples, has 17 runs, 10 RBIs, and adds 18 walks and two stolen bases to his totals.

Sean Keselica (Pittsburgh) – Has pitched for the West Virginia Power all season with some impressive numbers … Is currently 1-1 overall and has two saves … In his 13 relief opportunities, has thrown a total of 27.2 innings, has struck out 27 batters, has a 1.63 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP.

Saige Jenco (Los Angeles) – The newest Hokie in the pros has played in 11 games so far for the Ogden Raptors and is contributing already… His numbers include a .390 batting average, a .490 on-base percentage and a .610 slugging percentage … In 41 at bats, has 16 hits, including five doubles and two triples, while adding eight walks … Has scored 10 runs and driven in five and is 5 for 6 in stolen base attempts.

Jake Joyce (Schaumburg) – Pitching in with the Independent League Boomers, has a 5-2 record with one save in 17 relief appearances … In 21.2 innings pitched, has a 3.32 ERA and has struck out 32 batters.

Johnny Morales (River City) – Playing in with the Independent League Rascals, has a .278 batting average in 32 games … Totals include 35 hits, with six doubles, a triple and home run, 23 runs scored, 10 RBIs, 16 walks and six stolen bases.
